At the end of each year, the CWVC makes an annual donation of 10% of our general treasury to an organization that
benefits Vizslas and/or dogs in general. A committee is formed with one Board Member and two Members to investigate options and present their recommendations to the CWVC Board & Membership for approval. Czar’s Promise is founded on the premise of giving back. Helping our canine and human companions who we love and cherish each day, whose lives have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
Czar's Promise provides funding for companion animal and pediatric cancer research to help find a cure. Including financial, educational and emotional support for families whose canines and felines have been diagnosed with cancer and receiving treatment, grant funding for pediatric cancer research at UW Health Kids – American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison WI, and grant funding for companion animal cancer research at University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, Madison, WI.

The Vizsla Club of America Welfare Foundation (VCA WF) was established in 2000 by the Vizsla Club of America (VCA). Their mission is to provide enduring financial support to benefit the purebred Vizsla in the areas of health research and rescue.
Since 2010, the Health Fund has partnered with the AKC Canine Health Foundation (AKC CHF) to support research that benefits the Vizsla including (but not limited to) hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma, mast cell cancer, canine epilepsy, brucellosis, diet-related DCM and temperament studies.

The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine is conducting a study with a goal to create a genetic test for canine epilepsy. A genetic test for epilepsy would allow breeders to screen potential breeding animals for this common, frustrating, and potentially devastating disorder prior to making breeding decisions. They propose to use genetic markers to develop a screening test for predicting epilepsy. This approach to identifying the region of the canine genome containing the defective gene will ultimately lead to the prediction of candidate genes that can be characterized to define the precise defect responsible. ________________________________________________________________________________________

The goal of the UW Madison VACCS trial is to evaluate a new vaccine strategy for the prevention, rather than the treatment of dogs with cancer. Health dogs of certain breeds, aged 5.5 to 11, will be randomized to receive either a series of vaccines similar to other routine vaccines that are given to dogs currently, or placebo vaccines. Dogs will live at home and be checked 2-3 times yearly for 5 years after enrollment.

The PuppyUp Foundation is committed to discovering the common links between canine and human cancers and the causes of these cancers through comparative oncology research. Their scientific objectives are: broadening our understanding of the links between human and companion animal cancer, creating a cross institutional collaborative platform, developing new approaches to research, and funding translational cancer studies that benefit both pets and people.
Through The Puppy Up! Walk, they are building the largest pet and people cancer community in the world; from business people to artists to scientists and humanitarians, a partnership forged with the singular purpose of ridding the world of its deadliest disease. The 2017 PuppyUp Madison Walk is a family-focused event for all humans and canines to enjoy! This heartwarming and energizing event raises awareness, funds and provides education in the field of comparative oncology and the links between canine and human cancer. It is a day to honor and recognize those who have survived or are battling cancer and memorialize those whose lives have been lost to this disease.
The CWVC proudly supports the efforts of this incredible organization and also the personal contributions of our friends and fellow club-members, Jo Reynolds and Stanley Solheim. Over the last 40 years, Jo & Stan have lost all four of their beloved Vizslas: Yaryi, Béla, Zoltan, Galuska, and one beloved rescue terrier mix, Paolo, to various canine cancers. In 2015, 11 year old Vizsla girlie Galuska was diagnosed with histiocytic sarcoma of the lungs, with prognosis of two weeks to three months. They were fortunate that this time, more and better treatment options were available, and Lushie lived a happy, healthy, pain-free 12 months.
